The Soke is defined as 'a local division of minor character' (Oxford Dictionary). In Youngs, however, the administrative area of a Soke can vary from containing a single parish level unit to including over twenty, for instance Winchester or Bolingbroke. Similar to a Liberty a Soke was a subordinate unit to a mother parish and was dependant on a secular or ecclesiastical governor.
